Let’s get something out of the way right now. Your vet is not the villain in this story.

After an average of 4 years of undergraduate university, they then went to Veterinary Medical School for an additional 4 years. They work brutal hours. They genuinely love animals. And they are doing exactly what they were trained to do.

The problem is not your vet’s character. The problem is what they were never taught.

If your pet has been dealing with chronic illness, recurring symptoms, or a diagnosis that comes with the phrase “we’ll just manage it,” this post is for you. Because there is a gap between what you have been told and what is actually possible. And today we are going to close it.

Two Vets Walk Into Vet School…

Here is something most people do not know. Every holistic vet and every conventional vet started in exactly the same place.

Same four years of veterinary medical school. Same board exams. Same license. Same long nights studying pathology and pharmacology and surgery.

I know this firsthand because I was a conventional vet for decades. I did emergency medicine. I did surgery. I treated acute cases and critical patients. I was fully immersed in Western veterinary medicine, and I was good at it.

But after 25 years, something shifted. I started seeing patterns in my patients that conventional medicine could not fully explain or resolve. And I started asking questions that my training had never taught me to ask.

So I went back to school. Then I went back again. I studied acupuncture and earned certification through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. I studied herbal medicine, eventually serving as President of the American College of Veterinary Botanical Medicine. I studied medical manipulation (veterinary chiropractic). Hundreds of additional hours. Certifying exams. New tools.

The difference between a holistic vet and a conventional vet is not philosophy. It is the size of the toolbox.
